Getting started

OLT PRIME sits between you and your OLTs. You give it a way to reach each device once, and from then on it keeps its own picture of your network — every card, every port, every subscriber — and lets your team work from that picture instead of from a terminal.

What you need before you start

• An OLT OLT PRIME can reach. On the hosted service that is a VPN from a MikroTik router at your site — the OLT itself is never exposed to the internet. On your own server it is usually already on the same network, and there is no VPN to set up.
• The device's management address and the credentials it uses for management traffic.
• Ten minutes. The first sync of a busy OLT takes a few minutes; nothing else takes long.

What happens on its own

Once an OLT is connected, several jobs run without anyone asking:

• Every minute — the online and offline state of every subscriber is refreshed, so the counts on your dashboard are current rather than an hour old.
• Every 30 minutes — the full subscriber list is re-read, which is what picks up devices that were added or removed.
• Every night — the OLT's configuration is backed up and kept, so a failed card is a restore rather than a rebuild.
